초록(영문)
The rapid rise of one-person households living alone as well as low birth rate and aging populations is steep. Unlike the MZ generation who is called as digital natives, digital literacy of senior one-person households living alone is an important factor, because it is directly related to their survival beyond social isolation. The purpose of this research is to investigate empirically the differences between digital literacy and online community activities as well as social participation between the single and multi-person households of the elderly and MZ generation. Also it aims to explore the causal model of digital literacy to online community activities and social participation. According to the analysis of 4,408 data collected by the Korea Institute for Information and Communication Policy (KISDI) in 2020, compared to multi-person households, one-person households of the elderly group showed significantly lower levels of digital literacy, online community activities, and social participation. In the one-person household group of the MZ generation, the level of digital literacy did not promote both online community activities and social participation. On the other hand, in the one-person household group of the elderly, the impact of digital literacy on social participation was not directly shown, but by mediating the level of online community activities. These results are significant in that they reaffirm the digital gap between the single and multi-person households of the elderly, while providing a foundation for practical and academic discussions that facilitate online community interaction among one-person households of the elderly in order to promote their social participation.
