As a case study with 〈the Frozen〉, this research aims to understand genre and stereotypical changes of Disney’s feature-length animation films. As an audience research based on in-depth interviews and focus-group interviews, it found that some traditional genre-values implied in Disney animation films, including passive female characters, male-driven romance, and didactic morality, were altered in , and such changes contributed to the movie’s popularity. In detail, recipients found Elsa, the main character, overcame her hardship without male character, which was a main narrative of typical Disney animation, and this reflects the current change of female-hood in the society ? which demands more active and enthusiastic female characters. In effect, the main storyline of this film is based on two female character’s ‘sisterhood’, which Anna, sister of Anna, becomes a helper to her sister to get over adversities. In addition, interview participants the explained non-existence of evil character in this movie which showed the ambiguity of the absolute good and the absolute evil in the contemporary society. In conclusion, in spite of remaining conservative characteristics of this film, these interviews and analyses show the possibility of fractures of the conventional genre-values, stereotypes, and ideologies which consisted the main narrative of Disney animated films.
